7 01 2014 Sikh Caucus Co Chair Valadao attends, says Sikhs issues to be resolved Gurjatinder S. Randhawa Freemont-California, January 7, American Gurdwara Parbandhak Commiteee (AGPC) celebrated the Gurpurab of Tenth Sikh Master Guru Gobind Singh with religious fervor and devotion according to Nanak Shahi Calendar 2003. The religious functions were organized at Gurudwara Sahib Fremont and Gurdwara Sahib Singh Sabha Milpitas CA. American Sikh Congressional Caucus Co-Chair Hon Congressman David Valadao was the special guest who promised to take up the issues relating the Sikh community at rightful platforms during the occasion. AGPC President Jaswant Singh Hothi and Coordinator Dr.Pritpal Singh congratulated the Sikh panth on the occasion and both the leaders asked the community members to live the life of universal brotherhood and peace as per the Guru’s teachings. They said Guru fought for the protection of the human rights and worked for the upliftment of the downtrodden and those less fortunate. They along with other office bearers of the AGPC welcomed and honoured Valadao for his contribution to resolve Sikh matters. Valadao meanwhile stated that they were taking up the issues of recruitment of the Sikhs in US Defence forces, separate records of the Sikh community in the US Census, stopping of the hate crime against the Sikhs and recording the incidents of the hate crime separately from the incidents of other crimes in the records of the police agencies. “We are committed to resolve all the issues being faced by the community. The Sikhs are part and parcel of the US society and we want them to safe and secure and resolve their matters relating recruitments and discrimination’’, said Valadao. Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs founded the Khalsa Panth and gave the teachings of harmony, brotherhood and righteousness.The birth anniversary of tenth Guru of Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh is being celebrated across the globe with religious fervor and gaiety. Guru Gobind Singh was born in 1666 in Patna of Bihar, where Patna Sahib Gurudwara is situated. Devotees in huge numbers visit the Gurudwara on the occasion. In 1699 on the day of Vaisakhi, Guru Gobind Singh ji founded the Khalsa Panth. He asked the members of the Khalsa to rise above the barriers of religion and caste and spread the message of brotherhood, communal harmony and humanity in the world. He told his followers to be ready to sacrifice for the cause of Dharma or righteousness. Guru Gobind Singh, gave the Sikhs their very distinctive symbols as marks of acceptance from God in the form they are, cleanliness, inspiration to do good and self defence. Devotees take out nagar kirtan processions and throng the Sikh Shrines to celebrate the occasion where Sabad Kirtans are organised. People from all walks of life celebrate the occasion and pledge to follow the path shown by the Guru.
